Artificial Intelligence Policy

For contributors
Our audience wants your thoughts, opinions, and insights, in your own words. Therefore, we ask that you do not use generative AI (GenAI) to generate all or part of your article, or the ideas or arguments underpinning it.
If you use GenAI assistance to create the article, please disclose this when submitting your draft. For example, using GenAI to review and modify a draft, or create images.
Our preference is for fully human-generated articles and we have a highly experienced in-house editorial and graphics team who can work with you to get things just right, no AI needed. Got a draft but can't quite nail the ending? Let us help! Have an idea for an article but been procrastinating for the last 6 months? Let's do a quick interview! Got an idea for a diagram scribbled on the back of a napkin? Send it in - you won't be the first!
For the editorial team
We will never use GenAI to generate text on our site. We may use AI tools (always with human oversight and control) in our workflows, for example:
- to automate routine tasks like transcribing interviews or making simple edits to video
- for background research (always checking facts against a reputable source)
- as a spelling and grammar checker or thesaurus
- as part of the graphics and design process
